Trial by Fire

Trial by Fire is not a cocktail to be taken lightly, as it packs serious heat. Designed with fire in mind, this spicy cocktail is multi-faceted and can have the level of heat altered by changing the pepper used or how much of the pepper is used. The Mezcal gives a nice smokiness to the drink, with the Cointreau and lime juice adding a citrus twist to accent the combination of flavours. Campari adds a touch of bitterness to tame the sweetness of the mango juice, while the reaper bitters and habanero add a fiery kick. Created by Travis Croken, 2023.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Mezcal
  • 0.5 oz Cointreau
  • 0.5 oz Campari
  • 0.5 oz Lime Juice
  • 3 oz Mango Nectar
  • 2 Dash Reaper Bitters (or your preferred spicy bitters)
  • 1 Habanero Pepper (or milder pepper if preferred)
  • 1 Mango Slice
  • Ice

Steps

  1. Muddle half a habanero pepper with mezcal in bottom of shaker
  2. Add Cointreau, Campari, lime juice, mango nectar, and reaper bitters
  3. Add ice and shake until chilled
  4. Double strain into rocks glass
  5. Garnish with mango slice and other half of habanero pepper
