Cherry Metaxa (English) or the Horafi (Greek)

Written by Bruce Moncur
A truly Greek recipe, in a country that makes cocktails famous in other countries (ie. Mojito). The most famous spirits Ouzo or Tsipouro are not conducive to mixing and are best served chilled or on the rocks. Perhaps the third most known spirit Metaxa a Brandy. Combining the brandy with Sour Cherry Juice (Amita) a unique drink found in Greece and Turkey means that 2 of the key ingredients are Greek. The juice pairs very well with the brandy and when added with a brown cola it tastes like a cherry pop. It is like a Cuba Libre but better.

Ingredients

  • Glass of ice
  • One part Metaxa
  • one part sour cherry juice
  • 2 parts Coca Cola
  • Cocktail cherry to garnish

Steps

  1. Get a cocktail glass and fill with ice. Pour in shot of Metaxa and Shot of Sour Cherry Juice stir. Add cola and garnish with bar cherry.
